PTCL Maintenance May 11 to 18 - The Internet Disruptions

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has notified customers of a planned maintenance procedure to fix an issue with one of its underwater cables.

The Maintenance Period:

Customers may have poor internet access during this repair time, especially at night. PTCL has issued a warning that ongoing repairs may affect internet quality. This will also lead to reduced speeds and potential service outages.

On May 11, 2026, the International Cable Consortium will begin the repair work, which they anticipate will last until May 18, 2026. Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has announced planned repair work on an undersea cable from May 11 to 18. As a result, internet customers nationwide may suffer slower service.

“The activity will begin on May 11, 2026, and it may continue until May 18, 2026.”

Internet connections may see “degradation,” especially in the evening, the business stated.

The PTCL said on social media that

“A maintenance activity is planned on one of our Submarine cables to repair a fault by the International Cable Consortium.”

The Second Downgrade in the Last Two Months:

The PTCL conducted maintenance from April 14 to 20. Thus, it should be highlighted that this will be the second downgrade in the last two months.

  1. 5G services in Pakistan: In a different development last month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke at a ceremony in Islamabad when telecom companies received spectrum licenses and started implementing 5G services in certain locations.
  2. $507 Million Raise: The government held a spectrum auction in Islamabad earlier in March, selling 480 megahertz (MHz) of spectrum to raise $507 million. The 2,600MHz band, a crucial frequency spectrum for allowing 5G services, was put up for bid by three operators.

The Maintenance is Necessary:

In the long term, PTCL anticipates that the repair will enhance the overall quality and reliability of its internet services and correct the undersea cable defect. Users should prepare for sporadic disruptions as the business collaborates with the International Cable Consortium to find a swift solution.

PTCL has apologised for any difficulty that its clients may have experienced at this time. The firm has guaranteed that they will make the required repairs to restore the undersea cable’s integrity and ensure improved service performance once the maintenance is finished.

Conclusion:

PTCL announces that it will schedule maintenance work to fix a problem with one of its underwater cables.

They scheduled this action to begin on April 14, 2026, and it may continue until April 20, 2026. PTCL apologised for the inconvenience and stated that users could experience internet service interruptions at that time.
